Weekly Notes for  January 23rd,  2017 

Dear A2 STEAM families,  

2017 Best Public Elementary Schools in Michigan: Metro Parent Daily Newspaper for Southeast Michigan recently released their top 100 Elementary school in Michigan.  A2 STEAM at Northside made the list and came in at #40th! Way to go STEAM! Besides this statistic on the same site we are ranked #2 in diversity out of 1,672 elementary schools in Michigan and #55 of the best teachers out of 1,385 on the same site! When we tell our story it does get noticed.  Thank you all for your efforts EACH day.  Your work does not go unnoticed. Here is the website for reference:

NWEA Winter Assessments: Many staff are assessing their students to see how much growth their students have made and adjusting their student Goal Sheets which were developed in the fall. Staff are also adjusting instruction based on these assessments as well.

Friday, January 27th- K-2 Fun Night for STEAM students and grades with the exception of siblings.

Michigan State University is hosting an educational, informative, fun event on Saturday, February 25, 2017 called *Introduce a Girl to Engineering*. This event is for 4th-8th graders, is filled with hands-on activities, and is FREE. Registration is required and chaperones may bring up to 5 students. We apologize for the short notice, but the registration deadline is Feb 1st.

Weekly Notes for  January 16th  2017 

Dear A2 STEAM families,  I hope you enjoyed the many activities offered Monday on Martin Luther King Day!  Also, the unexpected "ice" day yesterday.  We are all anxious to be back today ready to learn.  

Wednesday, January 18th 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the MPR (For parents of students in grades 3-8)

Tonight, WACC presenter Dylan Kite will be returning to A2 STEAM to present to grades 3-5. We were very impressed with the MS presentation and realized that many topics would also be helpful for our upper elementary students. This presentation focuses primarily on the consequences of cyber bullying, things that are appropriate to share online, creating strong passwords, and safe places to spend time online.

The presentation for students will be on Thursday, Jan 19 at 9:30 - 10:30am in the MPR. All students in Grades 3-5 will be attending.

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful winter break.  The A2 STEAM staff are excited to be back and ready for an exciting January.  We hope to see you soon at some of our upcoming events.

Thursday, January 12th 

PTO Meeting in the Media Center 6-7:30 PM.  Child Care is provided.

Friday, January 13th MLK Assemblies- 1st Graders will be singing "Seeds" from the Kindness Project and the 5th Graders will be performing student-created historical skits focused on Martin Luther King, Jr. & the Civil Rights Movement.

Please join us for either performance on Friday afternoon 1/13:

1st Performance - 1:30 - Grades K, 3, 6, & 8

2nd Performance - 2:15 - Grades 2, 4, 7

Wednesday, January 18th 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the MPR (For parents of students in grades 3-8)
